Heritage: Germish. My mother was born in Germany, and my father in England, although they both consider themselves Canadian now. I've managed to go back to both of their birth countries with them. Here's a picture of me in the Alps with my mom this spring.
Extended Family: One older brother, one niece, one husband (and a whack of relatives on his side), a bunch of step-relatives through various re-marriages (not mine!), and one naughty but cute schnauzer.
Social Life: I love going to art galleries, attending concerts of all kinds (from opera to bar bands), and walking around different neighborhoods discover what's new in my city.
The (Ex) Boyfriend: Thankfully, there's no Eric Skinner in my past. But I had several boyfriends who loved their jobs more than me, one who loved his dog more than me, and one who loved men more than me!
Philosophy on Romance: The guy you love should make your life easier, not harder. If you're spending more hours worrying than enjoying, free yourself up to find someone new.
Philosophy on Life: You have to go for it! Although I'm guilty of not following my own advice all the time, I truly believe you have to do whatever interests you, without caring what anyone else thinks. If you don't take the chance, you'll definitely regret it.
Interests: I love all kinds of art, taking photos, learning about design and listening to music. I used to play the piano, and at one time, started to learn the guitar with Sandy. It's been a while since I played either instrument but I still have my guitar and may dust if off one of these days, and get Sandy to do the same with hers! Here's a picture of the two of us indulging in one of my other favorite past-times - walking the ravines around Toronto!
Personal Style: I'm a girly girl, who loves her makeup - much to the chagrin of my husband, who complains it takes forever for me to get ready to go out. I tell him a masterpiece cannot be painted in five minutes! I'm equally attracted to jewelry, which is also a big downer for The Hub, who grew up with two brothers and does not see the importance of buying me bling. Fortunately, we've reached the stage in our relationship where I simply tell him when it's time to treat me to something new, and what that something should be. Some may call it tacky, but let's face it, there's a lot of ugly jewelry out there to trip a guy up. If you don't offer a little guidance, you risk having to wear it so as not to hurt your guy's feelings.
As for clothing, the one item I could not live without would be jeans. My idea of dressing up (unless it's for a very formal event) is to pair jeans with a sparkly top and heels. Nothing else has such versatility.
Love, Inc.: If I worked for Love, Inc., I'd spend most of my time helping Kali with her relationship start-up coaching. As a teen, and even into my twenties, I, was a bigger fan of the chase than the catch. I loved dating, from flirting through first kiss. But since reality rarely lives up to fantasy, there was a lot of lip-lock letdown. I'd also lend Zahra a hand with her mediations, because I am a peacekeeper who can't stand it when people don't get along. And I'd enjoy helping Syd with surveillance and a good slam, because teaching a jerk a lesson would be a rush!
Favorite Motto: Everything seems better after a good cup of tea.
Pet Peeves: Weak tea. Cake with cheap icing. Schnauzers who spend more time sniffing dead leaves than walking. People who talk LOUDLY on their cell phones in public, sharing intimate details of their lives. Drivers who hog two parking spaces. Huge SUVs (I drive a Mini Cooper and can't see around them). People who blank you when you smile or say hello. Arrogance. Umbrellas that blow inside out. Book deadlines.
